1996 Ranch House
Birdneck

This project completely reimagined how the home flows and functions. By opening up the kitchen, dining, and living areas, we transformed a series of closed-off rooms into one cohesive, light-filled gathering space designed for everyday living and entertaining.

The kitchen now anchors the home, expanded to create a generous central hub with a statement island that invites connection—whether for cooking, hosting, or casual meals. A custom-built dining table seamlessly integrates into the island, maximizing space while offering flexibility for both daily use and larger gatherings.

The Challenge

The existing kitchen was closed off, poorly connected to the dining and living spaces, and lacked functional workspace and storage.

Hastings Process 2

The walls, pantry, and half wall created separation that limited flow, light, and usability, and the original layout couldn’t accommodate the homeowner’s needs for a large island, integrated dining, and a dedicated desk area.

The Result

Thoughtful details throughout the space make it as practical as it is beautiful. A dedicated desk nook was preserved and refined, creating a functional workspace that still feels connected to the heart of the home. Storage was enhanced with an expanded pantry and clean, modern floating shelves that add warmth and character without visual clutter.

The result is a kitchen that feels open, intentional, and tailored to the homeowners’ lifestyle—an effortless blend of form, function, and craftsmanship that turns the home into a true gathering place.
